FIL 4535C – Sound Design II

Overview

As a student enrolled in FIL 4535C – Sound Design II, you have a variety of resources available to complete course media assignments. These include access to NSCM Media Labs and the checkout of media equipment.

Policy Requirements

Students are required to complete the Film Student Policy Form before they can checkout equipment or use facility spaces. This form has to completed once each semester to cover all courses.

Facility Access

After the Add / Drop deadline, enrolled students can electronically access NSCM Media Labs – NSC-161, 211A, and 211B using their UCF ID cards when classes are not being held in theses spaces. FIL 4535C – Sound Design II students can also access the Production Lab | NSC-143 as well as the Advanced Media Lab | NSC-172.

If you are unable to access the Media Labs or have been issued a replacement UCF ID card, please fill out the Access Card Issue Form for assistance.

Please use the Activity Calendars located on the NSCM Media Lab resource page to help determine when these spaces are available for open and assisted lab hours.

For certain assignments your instructor of record may assign you to use the Sound Recording Suite – NSC 172A/B. To reserve time in this space you will need to make a request through the Mircosoft Bookings App. Reservation blocks are set at 3 hours, you may request up to two back-to-back for a total of a 6 hour session. To gain access to the room you will need to have a member of the Film Equipment Room Staff checkout an Access Card to a member of your group.

To gain access to the requested suite, please go to the Film Equipment Room in NSC 157. A Film Equipment Room Staff Member will checkout an Access Card to your group.

For Monday-Thursday sessions the access card must be returned the following day by 1pm.

Friday sessions must have the access card returned 15 minutes prior to the Equipment Room closing.

Assignment Window

FIL 4535C – Sound Design II has assignment windows. Enrolled students will be emailed notification when each assignment window has opened.

Equipment checkout begins when faculty informs operations of a media assignment window. Operations then emails enrolled students to notify them that equipment checkout is now open for that assignment.

Start Date: Tuesday, March 3rd, 2026

End Date: Monday, April 27th, 2026

Duration & Frequency

Students can checkout equipment once per assignment window. Each checkout period is limited to a maximum of four days.

The total number of days includes the pickup and return dates (i.e., equipment checked-out on a Monday would have to be returned on Thursday). Weekend checkouts will be considered as two days (i.e., equipment checked-out on a Friday would have to be returned on Monday).

Due to limitations with our reservation system, we are not able to grant extensions to checked-out equipment
