Consent & Disclosure

Definition of Consent

Consent can only be given by the individuals performing the intimate acts. It requires that performers have full knowledge of what is specifically required before they are capable of freely giving consent. Any form of coercion, misrepresentation, or intimidation negates consent.

All agreed upon nudity, simulated sex acts, or any other form of intimate action must be agreed upon by all involved parties, in writing, within a document known as an “Intimacy Rider.”

Despite a rider being in place, consent is always retractable as individuals have a right to bodily autonomy regardless of written agreements and are not legally bound to perform. This can be done for any reason, with no explanation required. Especially if the performer feels emotionally and/or physically unsafe or hesitant. In the event consent has been retracted by the performer, the concerning actions outlined in the rider for that scene must be redacted before filming can continue.

Performers get final say on which crew members can be present when filming the sensitive actions of an intimate scene. Substitutions can also be offered for essential crew roles (i.e. the director can operate the camera).

Equally, crew members also have a say in whether or not they would like to be present when an intimate act is performed.

Requiring an individual to perform nude, simulated sex acts, or any other intimate action without an approved Intimacy Rider will lead to disciplinary action. Additionally, forcing an individual to perform nude, simulated sex acts, or any other intimate action without consent may also warrant reporting to law enforcement and/or UCF Victim Services.

Requirement to Disclose

Student productions must take extraordinary effort to explain any scenes that expose performers. Do not assume that any member of the cast or crew understands what is being asked of the performers via just screenplays, script notes or summaries.

Student producers and directors must thoroughly review the entails of each intimate scene with performers to clearly outline what they are expected to do. Be prepared to discuss and identify what they are comfortable with doing and not doing.

Not properly disclosing nudity, simulated sex acts, or other intimate actions and exposed scenes to performers, instructors, or Intimacy Coordinators; will lead to disciplinary action.
