Film and Mass Media Program at the UCF Nicholson School of Communication and Media
Late Return Policy
Overview
Students will be penalized for returning equipment late as it is common for items to be immediately booked for a new reservation for another student. To maximize learning outcomes, it is important that resources are marshalled efficiently and effectively across the student body. Late returns throw a wrench into that process.
What is Considered Late
Not returning equipment within 15 minutes of your scheduled check-in time is considered late.
No Call, No Show
Failure to show up to a check-in can be very disruptive to operations. If you are going to be arriving late to a checkout, it is better to give us a heads up in advance than just arriving late and hoping for the best.
This does not guarantee that you will not be penalized, but it does give staff an opportunity to make adjustments and not have to scramble at the last second. This type of courtesy is appreciated and will be taken into consideration by the Film Equipment Room Supervisor.
Penalties
- First Offense – Written Warning
- Second Offense – 1 Week Suspension of Checkout Privileges and Notification to the Coordinator of Film Production Services
- Third Offense – 2 Week Suspension of Checkout Privileges and Notification to the Coordinator of Film Production Services and Your Instructor-of-Record.
- Fourth Offense – Semester-Long Suspension of Checkout Privileges and Notification to the Coordinator of Film Production Services, Your Instructor-of-Record, and the Director of the Nicholson School of Communication and Media.
Reaching two semester-long suspensions of checkout privileges may result in a permit ban of checkout of privileges.
Late penalties reset on the first day of each semester.
Overdue Items
Equipment not returned with 2 business days of the scheduled check-in time will be considered as lost or stolen, depending on the situation. Please communicate with the Film Equipment Room Supervisor if you are unable to return equipment due to exigent circumstances.
Per the UCF-5.008 Code of Conduct, failure to return overdue university-owned property is considered academic misconduct and will result in probation or disciplinary action.
Additionally, failure to return Full-Service production packages on time, without seeking pre-authorization, will automatically trigger a semester-long suspension in checkout privileges and further disciplinary actions.
Appeals
Appeals regarding the suspension of checkout privileges can be sent to the school’s director.
