Film and Mass Media Program at the UCF Nicholson School of Communication and Media
Traveling with Equipment
Overview
Students and faculty who wish to travel with equipment must be mindful of the limitations of the school’s production insurance policy as the replacement of missing or damaged equipment is only covered when transporting and storing equipment on land within the United States, the District of Columbia, Canada and Puerto Rico.
Traveling by Plane or Ship
Whenever traveling through the air or over the water, even domestically, procuring an Ocean Marine policy may be necessary to augment existing the Inland Marine coverage. This is dependent on the value of the equipment being transported.
When traveling by air, electronic equipment (e.g. cameras, sound gear, and LED lighting fixtures), lenses, and batteries must be carried on. Any equipment intended for checked baggage must receive approval from the Coordinator of Film Production Services prior to travel.
Traveling Internationally
If planning to traveling outside of the United States, the District of Columbia, Canada and Puerto Rico, students and faculty will need to also procure additional replacement coverage to protect for loss or damaged when transporting and storing equipment.
Additional Coverage
Equipment packages with total values under the deductible of $2,5000 do not require additional insurance. However, any loss or damage of the equipment will require cash payment paid for by the individual who checked out the equipment.
Packages with total values over the standard deductible of $2,500 must not exceed a total value of $30,000 unless additional insurance coverage is obtained.
Additional coverage must be valid for the entire duration of the trip. Items will not be released without proof of the appropriate coverage being procured.
Please visit the Request Additional Coverage article for information on how to procure additional coverage.
