Rehearsal & Production
Before Rehearsal
- An Intimacy Rider must be reviewed and approved by the Instructor-of-Record, the Intimacy Coordinator, the student director, and effected performers prior to rehearsal beginning.
- The Intimacy Rider must be agreed upon a minimum of 48 hours prior to rehearsal. This includes all follow-up revisions.
Rehearsal of Intimate Scenes
Closed sets must be used during the rehearsal of any Intimate Scenes containing Solo Intimate Acts, Simulated Sex Acts, Simulated Sexualized Violence, and all forms of Nudity. Performers get final say on which essential crew members can stay when rehearsing the sensitive actions of an Intimate Scene.
- In-person rehearsals of Intimate Scenes should take place in classrooms, stages, other designated rehearsal areas on campus.
- Rehearsals cannot take place in hotel rooms or in private residences unless no other options are available.
- The Intimacy Coordinator must be present to review the Intimacy Rider, scene content, and options for modesty garments and barriers with performers, directors, and assistants.
- Modesty garments are permitted but are limited to just underwear or bathing suits during the rehearsal stages and are at the discretion of the performer.
- Rehearsal of Intimate Scenes should be limited to essential personnel, performers have input on who is present during the rehearsal of intimate scenes.
- Barriers should be used at the discretion of the performer or at the recommendation of the Intimacy Coordinator.
- Coverups, such as a bathrobe, must be provided to all performers wearing modesty garments and must be permitted to wear coverups when not engaged in rehearsal.
- Bodily Contact, Solo Intimate Acts, Simulated Sex Acts, Simulated Sexualized Violence are permitted but must conform to the limitations outlined in the Intimacy Rider approved for the rehearsal.
- Full and Semi-Nudity is prohibited during rehearsal.
Camera & Wardrobe Tests
Camera and/or Wardrobe Tests of Intimate Scenes require approval from the Instructor-of-Record and the Coordinator of Film Production Services. If approved, they must follow all the protocols outlined for production below.
Before Production
- The Intimacy Coordinator must meet with performers one-on-one prior to production beginning.
- An intimacy rider must be reviewed and approved by the Instructor-of-Record, the Intimacy Coordinator, the student director, and performers a minimum of 5 business days prior to the start of principal photography or a camera/wardrobe test.
- Outside of removing actions, no additions or changes to the rider can be made under 5 business days from the start of production.
Production of Intimate Scenes
Closed sets must be used during the production of any Intimate Scenes containing Solo Intimate Acts, Simulated Sex Acts, Simulated Sexualized Violence, and all forms of Nudity. Performers get final say on which essential crew members can stay when rehearsing the sensitive actions of an Intimate Scene.
- The Intimacy Coordinator must be present on-set to review Intimacy Riders, scene content, modesty garments and barriers with performers, director and assistants.
- Nudity is permitted but must conform to the limitations outlined in the rider.
- Any intimate body part, not agreed to be shown within the Intimacy Rider, must remain covered during production.
- Modesty garments and barriers shall be used at the discretion of the performer or at the recommendation of the Intimacy Coordinator.
- Bodily Contact, Simulated Sex Acts, Solo Intimate Acts, and Simulated Sexualized Violence are permitted but must conform to the limitations outlined in the Intimacy Rider.
