Intimacy Coordination

Purpose

The Intimacy Coordinator’s presence at rehearsals and on set ensures consent and clear communication during the rehearsal of Intimate Scenes.

As each production has different needs, the necessary level of Intimacy Coordination adjusts with it. Even productions that do not have overtly Intimate Acts in their script must still apply some level of Intimacy Coordination during their production.

Levels of Coordination

Student productions are not required to have an Intimacy Coordinator by default but are required to monitor Bodily Contact and ensure the proper steps for consent between performs are met.

Self-Coordinated

An existing crew member, typically the First Assistant Director, is assigned the duties of Intimacy Coordination.

Student Intimacy Coordinator

A dedicated role filled by a student who deeply understands the school’s Intimacy Protocols and uses the Student Intimacy Coordinator Handbook to guide their role on set.

Professional Intimacy Coordinator

A hired professional to oversee Intimate Scenes involving intense or hyper-exposing levels of Intimate Acts or Nudity on student productions.

Determination

The Instructor-of-Record will review projects for intimate scenes and will recommend the level of Intimacy Coordination neccesary. Intimate scenes that contain intense or hyper-exposed levels of Intimate Acts or Nudity shall also be reviewed by the Risk Management Committee.
