Objective

These protocols provide a framework for students when performing, directing, or recording intimate scenes by establishing a culture of consent to ensure goodwill and trust remain at the heart of creative activities.

The purpose of Intimacy Coordination is to desexualize the body of the performer. This is done by creating safe and professional environments for both cast and crew members to ensure that they are prepared an able to work to the best of their ability.

These protocols were developed using industry guidelines developed by the following organizations:

Approval to Perform

Approval to perform an Intimate Scene can only be obtained by the instructor-of-record or thesis chair signing off on an Intimacy Rider Form.

A director, choreographer, or writer (via the script) generate the intent to produce an Intimate Scene; but approval to rehearse, produce, and record Intimate Scenes only comes from the Instructor-of-Record or Thesis Chair who is directly overseeing the production.

Supplemental Parameters

An Instructor-of-Record or Thesis Chair can establish additional, more restrictive, parameters for student productions that they directly oversee. However, additional parameters cannot supersede or replace these Intimacy Protocols with less restrictive parameters unless approved in writing by the school’s director.

Legal Restrictions

Only individuals that are of a legal age of 18 years can perform in or be present for the rehearsal or recording of an Intimate Scene. Minors are prohibited to perform Intimate Acts, appear as or be nude in the production of a student project or assignment.

Any scene that has explicit or implied Intimate Acts, or some form of Nudity, performed in the presence of a legal minor is prohibited.

The rehearsal, performance, or recording of real sex acts is prohibited from the production of a student project or assignment.

Violations of these restrictions will lead to disciplinary action and may require reporting to law enforcement.

Reporting Misconduct

Productions must distribute the following insructions and contact information to all cast and crew members before rehearsals, camera tests, or principal photography takes place:

Students who witness or experience sexual misconduct, discrimination or harassment should report it directly to UCF Victim Services or by filing a Title IX Sexual Harassment Report via the UCF Let’s Be Clear webpage.

Incidents involving sexual assault should also be reported directly to law enforcement.

In the event of an emergency, such as an active crime in progress, CALL 911.
