Oversight of Student Productions
Instructor-of-Record or Thesis Chair (Faculty)
The Instructor-of-Record or Thesis Chair is the faculty member who is prompting the development and/or production of a student’s creative project within an official course, study, or thesis. They function similar to a studio executive over their student’s productions, who has final say on content and overall scope. Mentors the development of content, reviews pre-production and provides greenlight to move the projext forward into physical production.
Greenlights Student Projects for Physical Production
- Can redlight production based on vilolations of grading rubrics (defined in course syllabi) as well as violations of Risk Management Policies and the Production Safety Manual.
- Reviews and submits Uninsured Activity Application to the Risk Management Panel on behalf of the student. Ensure that the student Producer follows up on any feedback and resbumits updated packets to the panel.
- Coordinates with Head of Production Services and the student Producer to schedule and approve principal photography.
- Oversees inital pre-production.
- Supports the student Producer, Director, and UPM by reviewing the Production Safety Manual and Risk Managment Policies.
- Provides input on crew and cast members.
- Participates as a member of the Risk Management Panel.
Coordinator of Production Services (Staff)
A senior production specialist that meets with student Producers who’s projects have been greenlit for physical production by their Instructor-of-Record. Advises on the production’s resources needs and makes recommendations. Reviews shooting schedule, physical logistics, and verifies compliance with school policies.
Sanctions Student Productions for Principal Photography
- Evaluates scope, aligns resources with the needs and abilities of the production. Facilitates training workshops when necessary.
- Reviews Production Safety Manaul and Risk Management Poilicies with student producers and crew memebers.
- Coordinates with Instructor-of-Record and the student Producer to schedule and approve principal photography.
- On-call contact in the event of emergencies.
- Approves equipment and facility resources for production.
- Steps in if safety concerns arise to make corrections.
- Can redlight productions based on violations of Risk Management Policies and the Production Safety Manual.
- Participates as a member of the Risk Management Panel.
Risk Management Panel
Working on behalf of the school director, the Risk Management Panel meets to evaluate all high-risk activities scheduled for student productions. The panel is comprised of the Instructor-of-Record overseeing the production, the Coordinator of Production Services, and the Insurance Coordinator.
Approves High-Risk Activities for Student Productions
Through their collective experience and discretion, the panel members decided what high-risk activities are appropriate for each student production to undertake and are the final say on what activities or items are permitted or not.
